Accelerated Reading

Accelerated Reader is a program based on the fact that students become more motivated to read if they are tested on the content of the books they have read and are rewarded for correct answers. Accelerated Reader is a computer based reading program offered to students in grades three through eight. Students challenge themselves with the comprehension tests using the software in the classrooms and the computer lab.

Even with modern technology what it is today, the Accelerated Reader Software is not able to export a file useable outside of their software. Hence, the list was printed and then scanned into a file. The file then needed to be edited due to the sensitivity of the scanning software. Which leads me too this, if you find errors, I apologize. As well, it will be appreciated if you would send an email letting the Web Designer know, so they can make the necessary corrections. Thank you :)

If you use a dial-up connection or have a slow connection speed, you will want to view the A through J and the K through Z files, rather than The Full List - A through Z; all lists are on the Calendars, Documents, & Forms Page.

National Geographic's Geography Bee

The National Geography Bee is a contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society for schools in the United States. There are three levels of competition: school, state, and national. Saint Rose of Lima School offers this competition to students in fifth through eighth grade.

Odyssey of the Mind

Once again this year, Saint Rose of Lima School would like to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind competition. For those who are not familiar with the program, it is a student generated project wherein each team consists of no more than seven students and at least one coach who must be 18 years of age or older. Each team is given one of five problems to solve in which the students will typically write their own skit, create their own scenery and props, design their own costumes, and in some instances incorporate their own music and dance. Most teams meet one or two times per week for a few hours over several months in preparation for the regional competition which is held in Huntington sometime in March. Because this is a student generated project, it is imperative that your child be at the meetings.
