As I receive questions regarding this web site, I'll post the information here as well.
Adobe Reader: Why aren't the Adobe Acrobat Reader pages opening?
JavaScript: How do I enable JavaScript?
Site Map: What is a Text-Only Site Map and why would I use it?
Sunday Bulletin: Where can I pick up a copy of an old Sunday Bulletin?
Updates: When is this site updated?
Why can't I get the Parish Bulletin,
Accelerated Reader Book List, Ministry Schedules, or any of the Adobe
links to open?
First, do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer? Unsure? To find out if you have the software on your computer:
Go to: Start > Programs > and look for a program called Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. If it is there, take note of the version number.
If you don't have it, there is a link at the bottom of every page in this web site to Adobe where you can download the software free of charge.
If you do have the software, it -must- be version 5.0 or later for the documents in this web site to open.
If it is not version 5.0 or greater, you will need to update your software. There is a link at the bottom of every page in this web site to Adobe where you can download the software free of charge.
Netscape Users: Follow this link if you are experiencing difficulty viewing pdf files while using Netscape Navigator.
How do I enable JavaScript so I can view the menu?
First, Java and JavaScript are different, so make sure you are looking at the correct one. Also, there are several different types and versions of browsers and they all work just a bit differently. I have instructions below for the most common browsers. There are too many versions to show each one, however the instructions and screen shots should still be of assistance to you. If you use a different browser, viewing how to enable JavaScript for these three may help you figure it out.
Once you have completed the instructions below, use your browsers "refresh" or "reload" option and the menu will load and become visible.
Internet Explorer: Go to: Tools > Internet Options >
Security > Custom Level ...
here, scroll to near the bottom and select "Scripting" > "Active
Scripting" > "Enable."
"Refresh" the browser window.
Click here to view a screen shot of what you should be seeing: IE: JavaScript Enable
Netscape: Go to: Edit > Preferences > Advanced ..
here, place a check into the box marked "Navigator."
"Reload" the browser window.
Click here to view a screen shot of what you should be seeing: Navigator: JavaScript Enable
FireFox: Go to: Tools > Options > Web Features ..
here, place a check into the box "Enable JavaScript."
"Reload" the browser window.
Click here to view to view a screen shot of what you should be seeing: FireFox: JavaScript
What is a Text-Only Site Map and
why would I use it?
Our Text-Only Site Map is just that, it is text only. There are no graphics and, in this case, there is no JavaScript.
Each page in this web site, with or without graphics or JavaScript are all optimized to open and be functional in the least amount of time.
Graphics on a web page, regardless of the care the designer takes to optimize the download time for the viewers computer, can still slow down or even lock up a computer. Removing the graphics will aid those individuals with slower connections or those using PDA's (hand-held computers) to easily and more quickly browse through the site.
A small percentage of people have chosen to disable JavaScript. Our primary menu uses JavaScript creating a more accessible and user-friendly system for browsing through the site. However, if you have disabled JavaScript you won't see this menu.
Another reason for creating a Text-Only Site Map is to allow viewers with disabilities, such as the visually disabled, to access and navigate our site more readily. Many use "Readers" to read the pages aloud to them. Although the stylized portion of the site has been optimized for screen readers, the user now has a choice.
By creating a Text-Only Site Map and the corresponding pages, viewers can decide which set of pages works well for their own use. I am still learning all the ins and outs for creating accessible web pages for all individuals. If you are viewing this and have any suggestions for improvements and/or modification, please let me know. You can reach me here: Contact Us.
Where can I pick up a copy of an old Sunday Bulletin?
You can go to the archive files, found within the Parish News section of this web site:
Saint Rose of Lima Church > Parish News > Archived Bulletins.
Currently, there are two plus years of archived bulletins.
When is this site updated?
This site is generally updated weekly on either Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. Although it is unusual, there are times that I am not able to update the site for a week or two.
Parish and school schedules, calendars, and alike, along with some other linked pages, open
in a new window, using
Adobe Reader version 5.0 or later. If you don't have it, you can download a -free- copy by clicking here:
